♥ RUHANIAT MEMBERS & FRIENDS STEP UP TO SUPPORT COMPLETION OF THE MURSHID SAM DARGAH PROJECT
We continue to be inspired and energized by the life and legacy of Murshid Samuel L. Lewis (1896 - 1971), the Zen master and Sufi Murshid who founded the Ruhaniat and the Dances of Universal Peace. Though a San Franciscan, he was guided to be buried in the beautiful mountains of New Mexico; and visitors to his burial site continue to connect with his living presence there. We are currently building a proper structure for pilgrimages and retreats, in Sufi terms a Dargah.
September 2016: Pir Shabda writes, "Our fundraising for the Dargah Project is going very well. We have raised nearly $700,000 and need another $200,000 to complete the project. We estimate completion in July 2017; just around the corner. The Campaign of finding 300 people to pledge $1000 over three years is still very much alive, and we're hoping many of you can jump in. Each gift of $1,000 qualifies the donor for entry in the 300 for $1,000 Raffle Drawing on January 15, 2017, Murshid SAM’s Urs. Click here to participate - and enter the raffle.

♥ OUR WORK IN NEW DELHI: THE HOPE PROJECT INDIA:
Read the inspiring June 2016 report here! The Hope Project, inspired and largely supported by members of Sufi orders, is located adjacent to the shrine of Hazrat Inayat Khan. After four decades of work among the poorest of the poor in New Delhi, the Hope Project is making headway — older girls are returning to school and fathers are engaging in parenting classes around the concepts of good health and education. The Girls’ Non-Formal School attendance has risen to 75 students, and female graduates will be attending college. Young women from the Basti going to college has been a rare occurrence; now it is happening, and over the years, the success of so many in dividuals has changed the perception of the community concerning the importance and relevance of education.
During the past year, in addition to the existing medical and educational programs, a center for guidance and counseling has been created. Staffed by volunteers experienced in public sector programs and education, the center has inspired and guided young clients toward greater personal development and individual confidence. The Hope Project's medical and eye care services have expanded, and the vocational training curriculum has been upgraded. Emphasis is on making the school experience more joyful for the children.
The Thrift and Credit microlending program has grown as well, and the Income Generation program is now a profit-making enterprise and has expanded to more people in the Basti who want to learn self-sufficiency. The Hope Project executive director, Mr Samiur Rahman, visited the US during the summer and presented the program at several venues. Please donate to the Hope Project at childrensashramfund.org and keep this heartbeat thriving.
Why support the Ruhaniat with your financial generosity? Read this inspiring message from Sheikh Yaqin Sandleben, member of the Ruhaniat Board of Trustees.
"... I remembered a time when I was in India with Pir Shabda. He was offering bayat [Sufi initiation] to a native person of India at the Dargah of Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan. There were rays of the afternoon sun angling through the Dargah, birds were singing along with laughter and cries of children playing in the background. There was a touch of perfection in that moment. To see the Message that Pir-o-Murshid was guided to plant in the West come full circle, back to Mother India, with such potency -- this was to me a proof of our path, that daily wish we all carry for happiness and awakening of ourselves and all beings."
